This is the first sermon in the series Paradox: seemingly contradictory teachings of the Christian faith.
Adam and Eve's disobedience in the garde resulted in spiritual death first and then physical death. And it's been that way ever since, until Jesus showed up. Just before raising Lazarus from the dead (John 11:1-44), Jesus makes this outrageous declaration: "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will ive, even though they die." This means that anyone who dies physically can still have true, eternal life in Christ because they will not suffer what the Bible calls the second death. Jesus died and rose again both as proof and guarantee that there is life in death and it's not a paradox.
