It’s a normal human desire to want be great, like be a great friend, a great spouse, a great hockey player, a great nurse, etc. Jesus' disciples expressed their desire to be great and Jesus never rebuked them for that. However, Jesus did redefine what greatness is in God’s upside down kingdom and how to achieve it. Surprisingly, Jesus said greatness is achieved through serving others, being humble, and letting others go first. Jesus himself is our best example of what it means to be a servant (Philippians 2:1-11).
