This is the seventh and final sermon in the Reality Check series.
The book of 2 Timothy is Paul's last letter, written from a Roman prison most likely in the mid 60s AD. It's like his last will and testament, giving important instructions to his "son in the faith." Having concluded that he was not going to be released to freedom this time, he acknowledges three four things:
- His life is life is soon coming to its end
- His ministry has ended
- He has been faithful
- A prize awaits him
What a declaration! Paul's encouragement to Timothy - and to us! - is to live life in such a way that when death is knocking at the door, we too can say, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." If we do, we too will receive a crown of righteousness "on that day." This sermon will offer three practical tips to help us remain faithful to the end.
